Melrose Coaches

Misty Hyman was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. graduating from Shadow Mountain High School in 1997 where she is the head swim coach for the 2009/2010 school year. Misty graduated from Stanford University with a major in International Relations and is currently completing her MBA in Finance and Hotel Management from Les Roches University in Switzerland. She has completed her coursework overseas and is now residing in Phoenix while working on her thesis.

Misty swam for Arizona Desert Fox under Coach Bob Gillett and enjoys giving swim clinics and sharing her experiences and expertise with up and coming swimmers.

James Finch was born in Riverside, CA, however has been in Phoenix, AZ since he was 10 months old. He is a Junior attending Shadow Mountain High School. He has had several years participating on a swim team, most recently with Shadow Mountain under Misty Hyman as head coach. He is currently working on his Eagle Scout project which will be done by the time he starts work at Melrose. James plans on becoming an Aerospace Engineer and is looking for just the right college to attend in a year or so.

 

 

Audrey Lewter has been a Melrose member and a competitor on the Melrose Makos swim team since she was 8 years old. She was Team Captain for the SMHS Swim Team this past swim season, Senior Rep for Student Government and a member of NHS. She will be graduating from Shadow Mountain High School in May and is planning on attending the University of Arizona next fall. Audrey has been an Assistant Coach for Melrose for the past two seasons, as well as volunteering as a Junior coach prior to that. In addition to coaching, she enjoys teaching swim and stroke lessons. She is ready and excited to bring home the Championship trophy for a third year in a row!

 

Julia Schmitt was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated in 2009 from Xavier College Preparatory where she was a member of Xavier Prep Crew and a Student Council senator. Julia now studies Nutritional Sciences at the University of Arizona in Tucson and is a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After graduation from college, Julia plans to become a registered dietician and work in the sports medicine field.

Julia, her parents, and two brothers have been part of the Melrose community since 1996 with Julia becaming a Melrose Mako at the age of five. Julia is excited to join the Melrose coaching staff and to work under Olympian Misty Hyman. She looks forward to helping swim team members achieve their personal bests and assisting the Makos in maintaining the Desert Swim League championship title.
