Learn to Swim at Melrose all year long!

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for checking out our swim school! I am excited to be sharing my love of swimming with young children in the neighborhood I grew up in. Swimming has meant so much to me, and I can't think of a better way to pass on my knowledge, expertise, and passion to the next generation than to teach kids to love swimming and be safe around water!

If you are not on our e-mail list and would like to be, please let us know by email.

Thank you to all of you who helped to make our first season a big success! We look forward to seeing you again!

Follow Your Dreams!

Description

The class structure and curriculum has been developed by Misty. It is a combination of the best practices from existing programs such as Swim America, USA Swimming Foundation, the YMCA, and her own special expertise that comes from years of experience as a teacher, coach, and swimmer.

  • The main emphasis is on fun and safety.
  • The second emphasis is on laying a solid foundation of proper swimming skills so that students learn good habits that allow them to be successful at whatever level they choose to take their swimming.

Upon the completion of eight sessions at one level the swimmer will be given a fun "water challenge" to test their skills. At the conclusion of class each swimmer will receive a certificate to recognize their achievement. Each child will be eligible to move up to the next level based on their age and the instructor's recommendation.

Learning to swim is a lifelong gift that you give your child. Not only does it reduce their risk of drowning, but it also opens the door to an abundance of recreational and fitness opportunities that last a lifetime. From pool parties, beaches, and water parks to staying in shape when they are 80 years old. Your child may never thank you for this gift, but they will benefit from it for the rest of their lives.

Class Levels

    • Average class size is four swimmers per instructor.
    • Classes are 35 minutes long.
    • Instructors cater the class to the student.
    • Classes are interchangeable, however, for consistency; we recommend that the child is with the same instructor as much as possible.
    • For best results we recommend the swimmers come 2 - 3 times per week, and no more than 4 times per week.

Bubbles

This class is for ages 18 months to 3 years. The classes are set to music and designed for both the child and an accompanying adult. The focus is on being comfortable in the water and learning basic water awareness and safety including blowing bubbles, floating, and paddling.

Ripples

This level is for ages 2 years and up who are at ease and comfortable in the water. This class will introduce buoyancy control, breath-holding, and will include diving down to the bottom for rings and other fun games to encourage proficiency. This level will also introduce the three kicks: dolphin, freestyle, and breaststroke.

Waves

This level is for ages 3 years and up. This level continues to work on breath-holding by teaching swimmers to swim with their face in the water and only lift their head to breathe. It will introduce big freestyle and backstroke arms that come out of the water and students will begin diving from a seated position on the wall.

Tsunamis

This level is for ages 4 years and up. This group is preparation for swim team. It will build on the skills introduced in the previous levels with introduction to breaststroke and butterfly arms. Students will move up to diving off the side from a standing position and will be introduced to racing skills such as the streamline position.

Riptide

This level is for ages 7 and up who are new to swimming. Swimmers will be with others their own age and will be taught swimming basics at an accelerated rate.
