Melrose Swim Team

The Melrose Swim Team is a non-USS swim team that offers a middle ground swim team between competitive USS teams and recreational swim teams. The mission of Melrose is to offer a swim team in a community setting; we aim to develop the fullest potential of the swimmer; to encourage good sportsmanship, enjoyment, individual integrity, self-discipline and team play.

During the summer the Melrose Makos Swim Team competes with other non-USS summer swim teams in the Desert Swim League. The summer season begins in May; weekly meets are held in June and July providing swimmers with the opportunity to; compete, perfect strokes, and be a member of the team.

During the fall, winter and spring seasons the team emphasizes stroke technique and all around fitness in our heated pool. Each month the team competes with local swim teams around the valley. Championship meets are held seasonally to give swimmers the chance to have a fun competitive experience.

When a youth joins a swim team, he or she becomes engaged in a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. More importantly, the emphasis is not necessarily on winning or losing - but on personal development. Goal setting in the pool, in education and life is an important part of the Melrose swim philosophy. Swimmers learn sportsmanship and teamwork, achieve a level of physical fitness, and acquire skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Melrose Swimmers practices three days a week; practice times depend on age. Visit the practice page for the practice schedule. Swimming during the fall, winter, and spring seasons do not make a swimmer ineligible to compete in the Desert Swim League. Swim team fees are paid monthly; $45 for members and $60 for non-members.
